Lab Philosophy

Community, Empowerment,
Integrity.

Our work is driven by a desire to use science to help alleviate human suffering. To that end, we strive to keep the science at the forefront. This means everyone in the lab plays an important role in maintaining our integrity, quality, innovation, initiative, communication, and resourcefulness. We honor the unique perspective that each person brings to the table.

We expect each member to fully engage, choose a positive attitude, and work together to get things done. We share our experiences freely so that we can learn from each other’s mistakes. We recognize that when we work together, we have a greater impact than we do as individuals. We believe that team science is the best science!

We work to build community, both within and outside the lab, and are committed to sharing data, publications, and protocols to help advance translational neuroscience.

We acknowledge many groups have been historically left out of science and medicine, and believe in intentionally making room at our table. We work hard, we play hard, and we embrace any opportunity to celebrate, especially with food! We enjoy life and value family, friends, outside interests, laughter, lab adventures, integrity, and cool science. We value our mental health.

Science is hard. It requires tenacity, determination, commitment, and the understanding that breakthroughs take time. So, we look out for each other. We make sure that each person feels connected to the group, the work, and outside support systems. Although we appreciate people “owning” their projects, we are committed to cross-training so that one of us can step in when unexpected life events happen. Finally, we love our pets and are committed to the humane treatment of laboratory animals. Thank you for your interest in our lab!
